Count Orlok’s (Bill Skarsgård) production-made SFX hand shadow from Robert Eggers’ 2024 horror remake Nosferatu. Count Orlok cast the giant, moving shadow of his hand over the town of Wisburg.
Using techniques pioneered by the creators of the 1953 Peter Pan, the production separated the shadow from its source of projection. Expert shadow puppeteers then trained the shadow to creep up walls, stretch ominously across floors, and vanish at dramatically appropriate moments.
The shadow comes displayed in a UV light-proof cabinet.
The shadow exhibits a lack of strength in overcast weather.
